Friday 9th February – Windsurf *** River Orwell at Levington Marina – mainly cloudy and mild.

Foil – 19.19 knot max, 18.18 knot ave, 12.91 knot hour, 16.69 knot mile, 35.27 km., 14.33 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Tushingham Storm 6.5m.

Today forecast looked promising with a nice mild breeze from the SW and with high water on the Orwell just after 11 I headed over to Levington Marina just after breakfast, I was not sure of the wind strength and direction because sadly the Landguard live weather station has been down for a day or so:( The light rain first thing had cleared as I arrived at the marina with loads of water and a nice onshore breeze, some sunshine too, foil board was quickly set-up and I went for my 6.5 which was probably too big and 5.5 might have been better? SW is a great direction for doing long runs from the corner down towards to Pin Mill where the water is nice and smooth, it was a funny session as I had to beat both ways just to stay in the same place, as I said earlier a smaller sail might have made going upwind better? I always try for a fast hour and was going OK until I ran out of wind for a spell down towards Pin Mill, then I caught a small twig on my mast I had to stop and clear it spoilt that attempt but I still some fun doing several long runs, just me and a few birds flying overhead:) Then as the wind picked up I decided to call it a day, shower and head for home, The year so far has been OK so making the most of the mild days with 9 foil sessions so far:)
